History

Southside stud is owned by myself Andrea Turner. We are situated about 2 miles outside bromley town centre.

The stud was formed when a desire to breed performance horses that are home bred was what I wanted to aim for, and to try and promote British Breeding. It was as this point I changed direction and I named and formed the stud. My first purchase being an oldenburg mare by the show jumping stallion “High Valley Z”. Only a handful of foals are born each year using well known up and coming sires and the best and most suitable matched mares.

From a very early age my only interest was in show-jumping. I lived and breathed every minute of it! After leaving school at 15 before my exams (yes, very naughty I know!) I fell into my first job at show-jumper Lynne Driscoll's yard based in Westerham where I happily remained for 3 years, watching, learning and observing my surroundings, When time allowed I competed my own horse but coming from a non-horsey, non-understanding parents I never reached fully where I wanted to be and go which limited me to local shows sadly. The following years would see me working in a few other yards with my dream still in sight to one day start breeding foals who I hoped would go on and be talented jumpers carrying the Southside prefix.

In 1994 I had a break to have my first son and from then took a break from horses until around 2002 when I found my confidence and bravery I had in show-jumping had dissapeared so I knew my days in the saddle where numbered. I settled that if I couldn’t ride I would begin breeding and in 2006 I named and formed Southside Stud in the hope that 1 day I would be lucky enough to breed something special that would carry my prefix.

And the rest they say, is history!
